A Somerset car boot business says it will no longer accept twenty-pound notes after being handed four counterfeit notes. Paul’s Promotions says it cannot afford to keep losing money through fake cash being used for entry fees. Customers are now being asked to pay by card, with ten-pound notes, or using one and two-pound coins.
Taunton Flower Show is warning this year’s event could be its last because of rising costs and falling visitor numbers. The show, which attracts around seventeen-thousand visitors annually, is the oldest flower show in the county and has often been described as the Chelsea Flower Show of the West.
Numatic, the makers of the Henry vacuum cleaner, have invested one-and-a-half million pounds installing new solar panels at their factory in Chard. The company says the panels are expected eventually to power the entire site, which employs around twelve-hundred people.
New figures suggest almost a fifth of people registered with GP practices in Somerset were diagnosed with hypertension last year. Blood Pressure UK says the trend is concerning and is urging more people to have regular checks. Doctor Pauline Swift, Chair of the charity, says high blood pressure can often go unnoticed.
Ilminster Entertainment Society has secured a place in the All England Theatre Festival finals, which will be held in Leicester later this month. The group earned its place after success with its production of Knockin’ on Dave’s Door at the Western Area Finals in Frome.
