One person had to be cut free from a vehicle following a two-vehicle collision on the A30 near Chard yesterday. It happened at around one clock lunchtime, close to the turn-off to Buckland St Mary. Part of the road remained shut for three hours, causing long delays for traffic in both directions.

A Yeovil man has been jailed for 7-and-a-half years for supplying cocaine and cannabis. Andrew White, aged 60, of Sherborne Road, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A and class B drugs when he appeared at Taunton Crown Court. The court was told that White was linked to the two addresses in the town where police found large quantities of cocaine and cannabis.

Due to the Bank Holiday, waste collection days in Somerset are different this week. If today is your normal collection day, your bins will be collected on Wednesday. This follows for the rest of the week, with Friday collections moving to Saturday.

Two Somerset teenagers have become the youngest to swim the Bristol Channel. Izzy and Suzy, both aged 14, completed the crossing from Penarth to Clevedon in six hours and 28 minutes. The girls staged the 30 kilo-metre swim to protest about sewage pollution.

A road in Ilminster will be shut to traffic for 24 hours later this week. Ladymeade will be closed between house numbers 19 and 53 on Thursday for Wessex Water to carry out repairs.

Yeovil Town extended their unbeaten start to the new season beating Tamworth 3-2 at Huish Park yesterday. The win, in front of a crowd 3,950, has lifted Billy Rowley’s side up to fourth place in National League. Yeovil Town’s next game is on Saturday away to Southend.
