    A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a serious assault in Wincanton. Police say another man in his 20s was left with potentially life-changing injuries following the incident, which happened on the High Street in Wincanton on Sunday morning. The arrested man remains in police custody.

    Fire crews have dealt with a house fire in the village of Pitney. It happened at a property in Church End, with crews from Somerton and Martock using breathing apparatus and a local hydrant to tackle the blaze. No one was hurt.

    Plans have been submitted to redevelop Bridgwater Docks into a cultural and tourist destination. It includes creating new boat moorings, replacing a bridge, and improving walking and cycling access. The scheme is one of eleven projects being funded by the Bridgwater Town Deal. 

    A Taunton pub is offering training to its staff and customers in First Aid and using a bleed kit. The initiative by the licensee of The Waggon in Priorswood follows a knife attack on a teenage boy in the area. 

    A major road closure has been put in place in Crewkerne today. Two-way traffic lights are in operation on Broadshard Road until 7 pm this evening, after which the road will close to through traffic in both directions until 6 am tomorrow. The closure will be repeated tomorrow and on Thursday for Wessex Water to replace the monitoring equipment. 

    Minster Church in Ilminster is opening for longer this week for the town’s annual Christmas tree festival. 57 Christmas trees, donated by local businesses, schools and charities, are on display. Admission is free, with the Minster open between 9 am and 5 pm until Saturday, and late-night opening until 7 pm on Thursday and Friday.
