Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Shepton Mallet in which a man was beaten up. It happened in Hitchin Lane, an alleyway between Queens Road and The Sidings at around 4.30 in the afternoon of Sunday, November 17th. Police are trying to trace two men, described as white, in their late teens, who punched and kicked the man, before running off towards The Sidings. If you can help, you’re asked to please call the non-emergency number 101.

Somerset Council has announced new plans for devolution from central government. Along with Dorset and Wiltshire Councils it has revised its Expression of Interest in devolution, committing to a Mayoral Combined Authority for the Heart of Wessex region. The plans do not involve merging the councils but would instead hand down powers and decision-making from central government to new "local partnership" areas.

Charities across Somerset have officially started their Christmas fundraising. Yeovil Hospital Charity says the funds raised will be used to make hospital stays more enjoyable for patients over the Christmas period.

A Crewkerne dental surgery has been voted UK Dental Practice of the Year in the Private Dentistry Awards 2024. The Black Swan Dental Spa in Falkland Square was also voted Digital Dental Practice of the Year in the South of England. Claire Handscomb, a hygienist at the Black Swan Surgery, received a Highly Commended Award in the Hygienist of the Year category.
