    The Poundland chain has confirmed its 2026 store closures, including plans to close one of its Yeovil branches next Friday. A total of 12 shops will close throughout January as part of a wider plan implemented at the beginning of 2024.

    Not only was she part of the World Cup-winning Red Roses, who regained the trophy from New Zealand's Black Ferns, but Yeovil's Marlie Packer has also now been awarded an OBE for her outstanding contribution to rugby. She is a key member of the Saracens' squad this season, which is topping the Premiership Women's Rugby table.

    Nearly 100 new low-cost homes could be coming to South Chard following a fresh proposal from the LiveWest housing association. The properties, if approved by local Councillors later this year, would be built on Perry Street, on the Somerset-Devon border.

    Ilminster Town Council is seeking local input on where to place public electric car charging points in the town. Somerset Council has secured £3.78 million from the Government as part of a nationwide expansion of electric vehicle charging. The funding will support over 1,600 low-powered charge point sockets, both on-street and in car parks. Suggestions can be made at the Town Council website.

    An on-demand bus service in Somerset says it's providing a massive lifeline for passengers. The Slinky Bus, run by Somerset Council, has provided more than 10,000 journeys in its first 18 months.
