People are being asked to give their opinions on proposals to introduce Sunday charges at Somerset Council-run car parks. Currently, charges vary for Sunday parking across Somerset’s 200 council car parks, with rates not having been reviewed since Somerset Council came into being in 2023. The Council states that the aim is to introduce a consistent charging policy, while ensuring the parking service remains self-sustaining. The consultation runs to October 20th.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance has started an appeal to raise the final £1 million needed to purchase and fit out a second air ambulance helicopter. It will enable air ambulance crews to reach more patients and ultimately save more lives.

The A39 heading out of Wells towards Glastonbury has been closed until the end of October. A one-way system is in place, allowing traffic into Wells from the Glastonbury direction. A diversion via Shepton Mallet is operating for other traffic. The road has been shut for work to take place to replace a gas main.

A Pilton man has been jailed for 2 years after cannabis valued at £28,500 was found at his home. Andrew Westwick of East Town Lane pleaded guilty to supplying and producing Class B drugs at Taunton Crown Court. Westwick was arrested after police found 6kg of cannabis, including cannabis plants, during a search of his home and car last December.

Police are asking for help in finding those responsible for the theft of equipment from a farm in Yetminster. A Takeuchi mini digger, a green Yamaha quad bike and a blue Ifor Williams horse trailer were stolen in the raid. Police ask anyone who comes across items matching the description and being sold in suspicious circumstances to call the non-emergency number 101.
