Two hundred incidents nationally, including several in Somerset in which laser pointers have been used against aircraft at night have been reported to the Civil Aviation Authority in the past 18 months.
A Yeovil man has been jailed for more than four years after he was convicted of raping a woman. Leon Walker, aged 38, denied the offence, which took place in 2023, but was found guilty by a jury in July. Walker was sentenced at Taunton Crown Court to four years and three months in prison.
Plans to build forty new homes in the village of Curry Rivel have been given the go ahead. The new houses, to be built off Maple Road, include 14 affordable properties. The planning application was approved by members of Somerset Council’s Planning South Committee despite objections from Curry Rivel parish council.
Revised plans have been put forward for a 70-bed care home in Chard. Country Court Care wants to build the care home on East Street, close to the Lidl supermarket. The new plans will see a new access road created onto East Street, opposite Derhams Removals.
