    Motorists in Chard are facing weeks of further travel disruption due to a delay in repairing a gas main and laying a new sewage pipe. A stretch of the A358, Furnham Road, which closed in January and was due to reopen this month, will now not reopen until October. 

    A teenager has been arrested in Ilminster on suspicion of possessing a knife and allegedly biting a police officer. The teenager was detained after being stopped and searched by Police at a fun fair held at Ilminster Recreation Ground. 

    A fire that destroyed a tractor at Galhampton is being treated as accidental. Crews from Wincanton, Castle Cary and Yeovil attended the blaze that broke out in the engine compartment of the tractor.

    A South Petherton man has taken over running the village fruit and veg shop where he worked as a delivery boy 40 years ago. Alan Sheppard bought the business after returning to South Petherton from living in South Africa.

    An 11-year-old girl from Ilchester has launched a business while out of school. Freyiah Haigh, who is autistic and has functional neurological disorder, was out of education for nearly 10 weeks after moving to Somerset with her military family. Despite her challenges, she has started a business making jewellery, keyrings, pens, and bookmarks. Her creations, under the name Fi’s Bead Creations, are being sold in Scotland and Shropshire.
