    Somerset tourism bosses say they are confident the County will have a good summer for visitors this year. Visit Somerset says the Easter holidays and the recent sunny weather have been vital in boosting local attractions and businesses. 

    A group representing care providers in Somerset says some residential homes are at risk of going out of business due to rising costs. Care and Support West says it is concerned about the increases in national insurance contributions and the national living wage. 

    A Somerset animal charity has taken into care three orphaned badger cubs found in an under-nourished state at the side of a road in South Petherton. The cubs are now recovering at the Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre where they are progressing well. 

    The Head of Manor Court Community Primary School in Chard, Luke Talmage, has been invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of his services to education. Under Mr Talmage’s leadership over the past eight years, Manor Court Primary School’s attainment levels have consistently exceeded the national average.

    The Flying Scotsman is coming back to Somerset this summer. Described as the world’s most famous locomotive, it will be running on the West Somerset line during late June and early July.
