Yeovil MP Adam Dance has presented a petition in the House of Commons raising concerns about the planned closure of Yeovil Hospital’s hyper-acute stroke unit. It follows an online campaign that gathered more than 12,000 signatures. The petition calls on the government to thoroughly review the proposed closure, with people who suffer a stroke in Yeovil being taken to the County Hospital in Dorchester or Musgrove Park in Taunton for emergency treatment.

Police in Yeovil are appealing for information after a man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. Armed officers were called to Monmouth Road at around 2pm on Monday and say that, while attempting to engage with the man, one of their officers fired a gun. Police say no one was injured, but following a search, a firearm was found inside the property.
