Police have dealt with an incident in which a quantity of firearms ammunition was found dumped at Yeovil Recycling Centre. The alarm was raised after the ammunition – some of which was found to be live and capable of being fired - was spotted in a recycling container by a member of staff. Police say the live rounds were taken away and safely disposed of. They've asked that anyone with ammunition to dispose of should take it to a registered arms dealer or surrender it at their nearest police station.
Recycling and rubbish collection days will change from next month in Yeovil and some other parts of South Somerset. Somerset Council has changed to a new contractor to collect all waste across the County, changing the days when collections will happen. Letters informing households of their new collection days are being posted out this week.
A local farmer is cycling 1,000 miles this week and all next week fund raising for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution. Nick Bragg who lives in South Petherton set off from the Northumberland County Show at the start of the week in tandem with a combined harvester and plans to end his marathon journey at the Royal Cornwall Show on June 5th.
