A man from Yeovil has been jailed for stabbing another man in a pub in the town. Amer Khan, aged 44, stabbed the man in the arm after getting involved in an argument with him at the pub on Preston Road. Khan, who pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, was jailed for 25 months.

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of drug offences in Somerset, including a man from Yeovil. Police seized class A drugs, drug paraphernalia, cash and two air rifles during raids at addresses across the County. All four have since been released under investigation, while enquiries continue.

Work is underway to help minimize the flood risk at Chard Reservoir. A new ‘wave’ wall is being built, aimed at stopping the reservoir from overflowing during heavy rain. Somerset Council says the barrier will provide protection from flooding to around 1,000 properties in the Chard area.

Plans have been submitted to build 36 new homes at Sparkford. Applicants, Lovell Homes Ltd, have earmarked a site close to Cherry Blossom View for the properties. If the plans are approved, Cherry Blossom Way will be extended past the playing fields in Sparkford, with a parcel of land retained for building a new village hall.

A new junction is being built on the M5 near Bridgwater. It will provide access to the motorway from the new electric vehicle battery plant currently under construction at Puriton.

If you like dressing up and have a strong voice, a job advertised in Glastonbury could be just for you. It’s to work as Glastonbury’s new Town Crier, officiating at ceremonial occasions, promoting events, and engaging with residents and visitors. The role is voluntary and experience is not necessary. To apply go to the Glastonbury Town Council website.
