A woman from Yeovil who’s endured five decades of heart problems has shared how she is still on the waiting list for a transplant, a year on. Kerry Fear is one of 596 people in the South West who are in need of a life-saving organ transplant – a record number. Meanwhile, the number of deceased donors has reduced by 100 nationally over the last year, although the South West numbers remain steady at 154 donations. Kerry, who is now aged 50, has added her voice to the nationwide call for more organ donors to sign up.
A Crewkerne community group say they have saved nearly two tonnes of food from landfill in just a month, with the groceries being offered to anyone in need with no questions asked. Open Doors Somerset runs the community fridge project, which started out as the Crewkerne Community Kitchen. Last month, they served 415 customers in the town and believe that over the last year, 16,256 kg of food has been saved from going to waste. The community kitchen opens its doors on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the George Reynolds Centre.

The streets of Ilminster are looking tidier than ever this month, after a volunteer group collected eight bags of rubbish in a community litter pick. Green Ilminster organised the quarterly event last weekend, and 12 local people worked together to collect the discarded items, with the aim of improving both the environment and the wildlife in and around the town.
A Tatworth pub is due to reopen at the end of the month with music, pizza and drinks in the garden. Christopher Cullen and Jack Stevenson had originally planned to reopen Ye Olde Poppe Inn this weekend, but experienced a handful of delays, meaning they’ll be welcoming customers through the doors on Saturday, 26th July.
