Ten thousand names have been added to a petition calling for the athletics centre at Yeovil Recreation Ground to be kept open. The centre, known as the Bill Whistlecroft Sports Arena, is at risk of closure due to plans by Somerset Council to end funding the facility. Somerset Council needs to cut spending by £87 million or face bankruptcy and is proposing funding cuts to more than one hundred and thirty community services including CCTV, local theatres, visitors centres and Citizens Advice.
