    A man has died following a collision between a lorry and a van near Wincanton. A bottlenose dolphin has been photographed off the Somerset coast in what is being described as a rare sighting.     A man has died following a collision between a lorry and a van near Wincanton. Police are appealing for witnesses and any dashcam footage of the collision that happened on the A371 just after 5 am on Wednesday. The man was one of four people in the van. The driver of the lorry was not hurt.

    Somerset Council’s Public Health team have teamed up with Somerset Drug and Alcohol Service to mark Alcohol Awareness Week with free health checks on offer across the area – including Yeovil Hospital - from Monday to Friday next week. The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘Understanding Alcohol Harm’ and explores how the effects of drinking can extend beyond the individual - affecting families, relationships and health.

    A bottlenose dolphin has been photographed off the Somerset coast in what is being described as a rare sighting. The mammal was spotted at Hurlstone Point near Minehead by volunteers who monitor the waters there. 

    Serving members of the armed forces, veterans and cadets are being offered free bus travel this Saturday to mark Armed Forces Day. First Bus say that those in uniform or displaying valid ID will not be charged across its Somerset services throughout the day.

    And the man dubbed ‘Scotland’s own David Attenborough’ is coming to Yeovil Westlands. Award-winning wildlife photographer and filmmaker Gordon Buchanan will be sharing stories of lions, tigers and bears as part of his country-wide tour and recounting stories from his encounters with some of nature’s fascinating animals. Tickets are on sale this morning.
