An investigation's underway after two people died in a collision involving a van and lorry near Taunton. It happened along the A358 in Combe Florey just after half past six on Wednesday morning. Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to Police are asked to get in touch.

A Somerset-based charity has warned that even dual income households could be forced into a level of fuel poverty this winter. This comes as the October price cap rose by four percent this week. The Centre for Sustainable Energy say it’s not just those on benefits who will be affected by the price hikes but are reminding residents that it can be dangerous to try and manage without any form of heating in the cold months. Meantime, the Government says the recent increase has been limited by a VAT cut on electricity and that they are looking at any measures to help further.

A hospital project, focussed on restoring independence is set to benefit more patients in the county after positive early results in Crewkerne and Wincanton. The scheme aims to reduce patient deconditioning during hospital stays by encouraging clinically able patients to leave their beds rather than using bedpans or bottles. The initial results suggest that mobility, dignity and independence is maintained through small but meaningful daily activities.

A Somerset healthcare service has been recognised nationally, winning the Public Sector Impact trophy at the PDG Awards. Homelessness Health in Somerset takes healthcare directly to people experiencing homelessness or multiple disadvantage in the county, whether on the street, in hostels or in temporary accommodation. This is the service’s second big award after it won the Health Equalities category at the NHS Parliamentary Awards in 2023.
