Somerset Community Foundation says it has awarded more than £40 million in grants across the county since it was founded fifteen years ago, supporting thousands of community projects and individuals. Its largest-ever award was a one and a quarter million pound grant to Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival in 2023.

The family of a 19 month-old Somerset girl say they used AI to help diagnose her rare genetic condition. Lily is one of only 70 people worldwide with MSMDS - a condition which affects vital organs. Lily’s parents have set up a charity to help fund research. Genetic Alliance UK, is urging caution with using AI to diagnose symptoms, saying rare diseases are particularly affected by modelling problems.

A property in Monks Dale, Yeovil is subject to a three month Closure Order following persistent reports of anti-social behaviour, nuisance and disorder. Neighbourhood policing officers, alongside the Anti-Social Behaviour Team and the housing provider worked together to put the order in place. Anyone breaching the Closure Order may face further enforcement action.

And a world record breaking attempt has taken place in the village of Meare with a team at the Ferally Good Festival aiming to create the biggest apple crumble. The ‘Crumbletons’ worked together to bake around 3,000 apples, over 500 servings were given out, accompanied by 100 litres of custard. Representatives from the Guinness World Records weren’t at the festival and there are supposedly a number of attributes to be taken into consideration, from length, to weight, to the amount of custard used, but organisers feel it was a fun way to conclude the three-day event.
