Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service say this summer saw record-breaking levels of demand, reporting over 6 thousand calls to their control centre in July. The Service says it's now monitoring the developing El Niño climate event, which could increase the likelihood of wetter and stormier conditions through the Autumn.

The charity that runs the Brewhouse Theatre has confirmed that it will definitely close at the end of October. It needs to raise £150,000 and the Trustees of the Taunton Theatre Association say in a statement that they 'reluctantly conclude' that won't happen by the end of next month. It hopes the closure will be temporary and has reiterated to the public that all planned activities will continue until the end of October.

A Chard mental health charity has officially launched a minibus service with the aim to improve community transport for isolated rural residents in the county. The vehicle, nicknamed Bertie, will support nature, health and wellbeing schemes in the area. Funding for the scheme has come from the Clothworkers Foundation and £18,500 of donations.

Construction has started on a new £12 million Urgent Treatment Centre at the Royal United Hospitals in Bath. The purpose-built centre will treat patients with urgent but non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, replacing the current unit based inside the hospital's Emergency Department.

Chard’s Forefront Community Centre has marked two decades at its Fore Street home with a day of music and celebration. Over 100 people attended the weekend event which featured the Chard Concert Brass, Charles and Kath from Chard Music and Laurie Burn.
