Police are appealing for witnesses after an assault on a man in Chard. It happened close to Sainsbury’s on Bath Street on the evening of Friday, November 14th. Police say a man in his 60s fell to the ground after being pushed in the back and suffered facial cuts that needed hospital treatment. They say the suspect made off in a silver coloured car. If you witnessed the incident and can help the police with their inquiries, call the non-emergency number 101.

Lloyds Banking Group has announced a date for the closure of the Halifax in Yeovil. The former building society on King George Street will close for good on Thursday, 12th January. It’s one of 14 Halifax branches permanently closing, as customers increasingly choose to manage their money online.

Train journeys on the Castle Cary to Taunton line will be disrupted next week due to engineering work. The work, laying a new drainage system close to Somerton Tunnel, begins on Monday and continues until Sunday, December 14th. Passengers planning to travel on the line next week are advised to check the National Rail website before setting off.

The mental health charity, MIND, in Somerset has produced a Christmas advent calendar. It says income from calendar sales will be vital to continuing the charity’s work.
