Extra money is being provided to ensure that improvements to Wincanton town centre begin before the end of the year. £2.4 million has been committed to regenerating Wincanton by South Somerset District Council to smarten up the appearance of Wincanton town centre, together with holding cultural events and giving grants to bring prominent buildings back into a decent state. SSDC has now agreed to an additional grant bringing the total regeneration budget to £2.65 million.

There needs to be better awareness of the symptoms of brain tumours. That's the message from a young woman from Chard who lived with the condition for many years before being diagnosed. Natasha Timms is supporting a campaign by The Brain Tumour Charity to highlight what are the signs to look out for.

The performance of water companies, including Wessex Water, in tackling pollution has been described as the worst in years. The Environment Agency has released a damning report accusing all nine of England’s suppliers of not doing enough. Wessex Water says it has changed the way in which it records incidents.

As the South Western Ambulance Service moves to its highest alert level ahead of the extreme heat in the coming days, there are warnings patients are dying because they can't get an ambulance. The ambulance trust is already investigating a number of deaths relating to delays.

Police are trying to track down those responsible for a spate of incidents at Somerton Recreation ground. Graffiti has appeared and personal items burnt at the skate park. Anyone with information is asked to call the police non-emergency number 101.
