Egg producers in Somerset say people panic buying eggs is putting extreme pressure on the sector. Lidl is the latest supermarket chain to restrict the number of eggs people can buy. Asda has already announced that customers will be limited to two boxes of eggs each. The shortage of eggs is being blamed for the outbreak of avian flu.

A judge has ruled that planning permission for new carnival sheds on the Dillington Estate near Ilminster must be re-considered. The proposed South Somerset Carnival Park was given the go-ahead earlier this year but a judicial review found that South Somerset District Council wrongly allowed two councillors, who were connected to the application, to vote in the planning debate.

Over one thousand drivers have been caught speeding through the village of Podimore near Ilchester so far this year. The figures have been issued by the Community Speed Watch team in Podimore, who say they’ve clocked some drivers travelling at twice the speed limit.

A new partnership has been formed between the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil. After the theatre's multi-million-pound refurbishment has been completed in 2025, the Octagon will be the orchestra’s main base in Somerset.

Yeovil Town’s game at Notts County tomorrow will set a new attendance record for a National League fixture. All tickets have been sold for the visit of Yeovil with the crowd expected to top 16,000. The current record for the biggest crowd at a National League game of 12,853 was set at Meadow Lane by Notts County last season.
