Staff at Yeovil Hospital have been praised for their efforts throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. It comes after a survey showed the hospital has been rated the best in England for employee health and wellbeing for the third year running.
A Yeovil man has been given a 12-week jail sentence for neglecting his dog. Local magistrates were told that Ashley Woodruff, of St Johns Road, owned a terrier type dog called Barney, who was found severely underweight and hypothermic when examined by the RSPCA. Barney has since recovered and is enjoying life with a new owner.
A trial is taking place in Somerset to see if child exploitation can be reduced by having social workers based in schools. Eight social workers are working in secondary schools with the aim of ensuring that children are identified as at risk of exploitation through things like drugs, money and sexual acts.
Volunteers are needed to help run a project to support young people in the health and social care system in Somerset. The ‘Young Listeners Project’ is run by Health Watch, the independent body that over sees healthcare in the county. It currently only has three young people between the ages of 11 and 24 signed-up. It's hoped to get ten or more involved within the next few months.
A new project’s been launched to encourage more wildlife in Somerset's churchyards. The ‘Wilder Churches Project’ is a partnership between the Somerset Wildlife Trust and the diocese of Bath and Wells.
