Somerset County Council says it could take up to six months to investigate June’s major flooding incident in Chard. The County County Council says those parts of Chard worst hit by the flash flooding event of June 28th that left homes underwater and roads closed are being investigated as a priority, that it could take to the end of the year to check for blocked and broken drainage pipes in other areas.  Meanwhile, business owners on the Furnham Road Industrial Estate claim their premises are at daily risk of flooding due to blocked drains and are asking the County Council to make their situation a top priority.

New ‘check your speed’ flashing warning signs are being trialled at roadsides across South Somerset. The County Council's Road Safety Team says early indications are that the messages are forcing drivers to slow down by an average of 7 miles per hour in built-up areas.

South Western Railway has introduced a new booking system for disabled passengers. It means disabled passengers now have to give only 10 minutes notice of traveling, with stations providing a dedicated phone service to make bookings.

Yeovil Freewheelers Bloodbikes has launched an appeal for new members. The Freewheelers transport important medical supplies between NHS sites using a network of volunteer bikers. Chairman Mel Rowbottom says they need more bikers because of the extra journey they have to carry out for the NHS.
