People have been asked to only attend Accident & Emergency at Yeovil Hospital if they’re experiencing a genuine emergency. Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Yeovil Hospital, Paul Foster, says high numbers of people are being seen by A&E who could appropriately be treated elsewhere. His appeal follows unprecedented demands placed on staff last weekend.

Somerset County Council says Monday’s flooding incident in Chard was a flash flood and not caused by blocked drains. It comes as engineers start repairs in the areas worst affected.

Councillors meet today (01-07) to decide whether to spend more money on smartening up Yeovil town centre. South Somerset District Council has been given £10 million by the government to improve The High Street, Lower Middle Street and Westminster Street but say more funds are needed to make the town centre look significantly better.

Avon and Somerset Police are looking to recruit a new police horse. They’re appealing to local horse owners to help with the search.

The Discworld Emporium on the High Street in Wincanton has closed and moved the business online. The shop, which sells Terry Pratchett books and merchandise, has been a prominent feature in the town for 20-years.

Members of Wincanton Choral Society have started using a tractor shed for rehearsals. The Society says as the building has open sides and complies fully with Covid restrictions.
