Plans to close all of Somerset’s railway station ticket offices are being criticised by disability campaigners in the county. An Ilminster personal trainer is celebrating a major award and this summer’s reading challenge has begun in libraries.

Plans to close all of Somerset’s railway station ticket offices are being criticised by disability campaigners in the county. Whilst rail companies argue that the proposals are designed to increase trained staff who are available to help those with additional accessibility needs, Sarah Gayton from the National Federation of the Blind of the UK, says ticket offices are really important for their members.

A crash brought traffic to a halt around the Cartgate roundabout last night, just ahead of the evening rush hour. Vehicles were reportedly held around 4.55 pm, affecting both the A3088 and the eastbound A303.

An Ilminster personal trainer is celebrating a major award. Helen Isaac won the Muddy Stilettos 2023 trophy in the Best Personal Trainer in the Somerset, Dorset & Bristol category. She believes her fitness journey has dramatically improved her mental health and helped her recover from leukaemia in the early months of her business.

And this summer’s reading challenge has begun in libraries across Yeovil and South Somerset. The initiative is open to children aged between four and eleven to encourage them to keep reading throughout the holidays.
