Council tax bills in Somerset are to rise by three percent from April. The increase was agreed at the last budget setting meeting of the County Council before the new Somerset unitary Council takes over running all council services in May next year.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident in Crewkerne. It happened on Monday at around 7.30 am on the A30 Chard Road. Only one vehicle, a blue Ford Fiesta, was involved. It overturned and left the road, injuring the driver, who was airlifted to hospital. Police are keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage of a blue Ford Fiesta being driven along the A30 in the area of Crewkerne, around 7.30 am on Monday.

The fire service is reminding people of the dangers of using outdoor gas barbeques inside the home. It follows the storms last weekend when hundreds of properties across Somerset were left with power. Devon and Somerset Fire Service say using outdoor barbeques in a kitchen can create a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

A pear tree at Wigborough Manor near South Petherton has been found to have a unique DNA. The tree, a Wigborough Pear, is nearing the end of its life and now a sapling has been taken from it for planting in the grounds of Montacute House.
