Yeovil’s Wilko branch looks set to close, alongside those in Bridgwater and Taunton, after a rescue deal collapsed. The owner of HMV, Doug Putman, had hoped to keep up to 300 shops open but the GMB union says all will shut by early October.

Meanwhile, the next stage of the ongoing Yeovil refurbishment scheme will begin later this month. Large parts of the town centre are already affected by the Yeovil Refresh project, with existing works along The Borough, Middle Street and the bandstand. Work, around Newton Park, Wyndham Street and the bottom of Middle Street will start by the end of the month with updated pedestrian crossing points, wider pavements and on-street parking bays promised.

If you recycle in Somerset, you can be sure that your plastic has been recycled here in the UK over the last year. Somerset Council say that the plastic bottles, tubs, pots and trays collected from households and at their recycling centres have all been sent to sites in this country to be turned into new products and packaging. The news comes ahead of next week’s Somerset Recycling Week.

The organisation which runs Martock's foodbank says it's had an amazing response to its appeal to replace items stolen last week. Thieves took hundreds of pounds worth of food and household essentials. Dave Sinclair, from Martock Christian Fellowship which runs the foodbank, says everyone has rallied around to help.
