    Drivers are being urged to be extra careful on the roads in Somerset with the cold spell set to continue. The County Council says accidents on increase on average by 20 percent during the winter months. County Councillor Mike Rigby, who’s in charge of roads and transport in Somerset, says they’re prepared for dealing with further icy conditions.

    A warm space in Yeovil says it's planning to extend the support it offers well into the New Year. St Peter's Community Centre in Westfield provides food and warmth to around 30 people on three days each week. 

    Independent traders in Somerset are encouraging people to support local businesses when Christmas shopping. The independent retail sector is concerned about the rising cost of living, and people spending less on presents this Christmas. 

    Combe St Nicholas C of E Primary School has been rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted. Inspectors praised the school’s project-based curriculum, which they say supports all pupils, including those with special needs.

    The A30 between Chard and Crewkerne is to close for eight weeks in January for urgent drainage works to be carried out. The road will shut on Monday, 23rd of January between Liddon Hill and St Rayn Hill to allow for 550 metres of drainage pipes and gullies to be installed.

    Yeovil Town's National League match at Barnet tonight has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
