A toolkit designed to help schools tackle eating disorders is being rolled out in Somerset. It follows a big increase over the past two years in the number of young people of school age being treated for eating disorders.

A major traffic diversion is due to be introduced in Marston Magna at the end of the month. It’s to allow for new flood defence measures to be introduced on the A359. The road will shut for two weeks beginning on October 24th with motorists wanting to reach Sparkford and Wincanton re-directed along the A359 back to Yeovil, where they will travel along Combe Street Lane, joining the A37 to Ilchester, and the A303 just outside Ilchester.

People subjected to disability hate crimes in Somerset are being encouraged to report incidents to the police. Avon and Somerset say 473 disability hate crimes were reported in Somerset in the last financial year, but Somerset County Council believes there were many more incidents that went unreported.

A road in Chard will stay closed all this week for resurfacing. Allotment Lane was shut yesterday and won’t reopen until Friday at the earliest when the work is due to finish.

There are concerns about what will happen to Ukrainian refugees living in Somerset now that their six-months sponsorship period is coming to an end. The Sanctuary Foundation has been involved in bringing Ukrainian refugees to the UK.

Plans have been submitted to open a new day centre for dogs near Ilchester. ‘Paws and Claws’ are seeking a change of use on land on Limington Road to split into six areas where dogs would be cared for, with two more areas rented to owners to exercise their dogs.
