    Bus campaigners say poor lighting and antisocial behaviour is making it dangerous to use Yeovil bus station. Members of the Yeovil Bus Users Group say streetlights are not working and claim that fights break out in the bus station on a regular basis.

    A Yeovil travel agent says holiday bookings are running at record levels. Miles Morgan, who has shops across the South West, including one in Middle Street in Yeovil, says despite the cost of living crisis, holiday bookings are higher than before the pandemic.

    Vandals are being blamed for setting fire to the cricket pavilion at the Winterhay Play Park in Ilminster. The owners of the site, Ilminster Town Council, say a bench seat was also broken. Anyone who spots anti-social behaviour in Winterhay Play Park is asked to call the police non-emergency number 101.

    A former pub in Yeovil town centre is set to become a religious meeting place. South Somerset District Council has approved plans to convert the former Westminster pub on Westminster Street into a facility for the Turkish community.

    Firefighters in Somerset have voted overwhelmingly to accept a new pay offer and lift their threat of strike action. They will get a seven per cent increase backdated to last July and an additional five per cent for this year. 

    Two members of Ilminster Bowling Club have won a top national award. Levi and Kirsty Hembrow took the National Mixed Pairs title at the recently held National Bowling Championships.
