Somerset County Council is encouraging all of us to look out for our neighbours this Christmas. The Council says with Covid still in full slow, the elderly and those living alone could again be left isolated this Christmas as social mixing is not advised. Clare Paul, the member responsible for health and wellbeing at Somerset County Council says a neighbour’s spirits can be lifted by just dropping in a Christmas card or giving them a phone number to call in case they need help. A group set up at the start of the pandemic to distribute food to vulnerable people in Somerset has donated its one-millionth food item. The Somerset Food Resilience Taskforce is given food by local supermarkets to hand out.
The online grocery business, Farmdrop, which uses food suppliers from across Somerset, has ceased trading. It specialised in connecting small-scale farmers, growers and independent producers with customers. More than 400 food suppliers nationally could be affected by the collapse.
A public meeting is being held in Chard for residents and business owners to talk about flooding. The drop-in event at Chard Guildhall on Monday, January 24th, follows two major flooding events in the town in June and October that left homes and businesses underwater and road surfaces ripped up. Representatives from Somerset Rivers Authority and Wessex Water will be at the meeting to take questions.
Tickets have gone on sale for Yeovil Town’s third-round FA Cup clash against Bournemouth at Huish Park. Stand tickets are priced at £20 and terrace tickets at £18. Season Ticket holders have until 2 pm on Christmas Eve to claim their tickets. The game’s scheduled to be played at Huish Park on Saturday, January 8th, with a 5.30 pm kick-off.
