    The go-ahead has been given to build 200 new homes in Castle Cary. South Somerset District Council rejected the plans on the ground they would create a ‘highly conspicuous scar on the countryside. Applicants, Wyke Farms and Hopkins Developments lodged an appeal, which following a public inquiry, has been upheld. The 200 homes will be built off Station Road, close to Castle Cary railway station.

    A Yeovil Town supporter has been banned from attending football matches for three years over his violent behaviour at games. Aaron Guildford was given the ban in connection with his actions at the Yeovil v Weymouth game at Huish Park in October last year. Avon and Somerset Police’s football Unit worked with Yeovil Town and the FA in dealing with this matter.

    A Chard man has been jailed for 18 months after being found guilty of three counts of sexual assault against his employees. Appearing at Exeter Crown Court for sentencing, Peter Hayball of Crossways in South Chard was said to have abused three women employees while working as a pub manager.

    Changes have been announced to waste collection dates next week. The Jubilee means that collections that would normally take place on Thursday, June 2nd will take place on Saturday, June 4th. There will be no collections on Friday, June 3rd. Those collections will happen on Monday, June 6th. Meanwhile, all collections for the week beginning Monday, June 6th will take place one day later, including collections on Friday, June 10th that will happen on Saturday, June 11th.

    A Job Fair is being held in Yeovil today organized by South Somerset Opportunities Hubs. It’s taking place at Yeovil Baptist Church; entry is free.

    National Highways are holding another public consultation on the design of dualling the A358 between Ilminster and the M5 at Taunton. The event is being held tomorrow (Thursday, 16th May) at Monks Yard, Horton Cross, starting at 10 am.
