    Somerset is experiencing a big increase in numbers of an insect more blood-thirsty than mosquitos. Entomologist, Dee Patel, says the Dracula Horsefly population has grown hugely during the hot weather and to them being resistant to most kinds of repellents.

    A Somerset woman, campaigning for a change in the law, claims her mother’s mental health was impacted by not having family and friends visit her in her care home during Covid. Hazel Leech wants the law made so that should the country be plunged into another pandemic, those who live in care and nursing homes would be allowed, visitors.

    People in Somerset who suffer from osteoarthritis of the knee are being offered a new 3D-printed implant. The treatment is designed to preserve existing knee joints and is used at an earlier stage before a knee replacement is needed. 

    A footballer from Chard has been signed by Championship League side, Ipswich Town. Eighteen-year-old goalkeeper, Charlie Binns, who began his playing career with Combe St Nicholas FC, has joined the Under-18 Youth Team at Ipswich.

    Children at Thorncombe Primary School near Chard have been raising money for Bristol Children’s Hospital. Their efforts were in support of a local girl who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumour at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
