The construction industry in Somerset has raised concerns over the scrapping of red diesel. From Friday this week, the rebated fuel can no longer be used in construction vehicles like diggers and dump trucks. The changes were announced as part of the 2020 Budget to tackle climate change and make the UK carbon neutral by 2050.

Members of Chard Rotary Club have raised more than £3000 to support Ukraine. A bucket collection was held at Tesco in Chard, together with a collection held at St. Mary’s Church in the town

The organisers of ‘Live in Somerset’ have announced it will now only be a two-night event. They say they've not been able to find a replacement for Olly Murs to headline on the Friday night. It will now just run on Saturday and Sunday night during the August Bank Holiday with Rag 'n' bone man and Simply Red headlining.

An Avon and Somerset Police Dog is through to the finals of the National Police Dog Trials, after winning the South West and Wales competition. Five-year-old German Shepherd, Ash, who is used to track offenders and locate missing people, will compete in the National Police Dog Trials finals at Cirencester Park, in Cirencester, in May.

Gardeners in South Somerset are being asked to sign-up for this year's Big Garden Party. Entries are now open for the annual fundraising event run by the National Garden Scheme, raising funds for charity. In previous years people have hosted tea parties, BBQ’s and bake-off events.
