The Care Quality Commission has published its report into the running of the maternity unit at Yeovil Hospital. The unit was suddenly closed last month following the CQC’s inspection and concerns raised about patient safety.
A public consultation has been launched into plans to build 150 new homes at Horton near Ilminster. Developers, Gleeson Land Ltd, want to build on land to the south of Broadway Hill. The plans will be on display for public comment at Horton Village Hall on Thursday, July 10th.
A vacancy has arisen to represent the Jocelyn ward on Chard Town Council. It follows the resignation of councillor Andy Webb. A new councillor will now be co-opted onto the Town Council to represent the Jocelyn ward, unless more than two people want the role, in which case, a by-election will be held.

A Chard man has embarked on a 75-mile walk across Somerset, raising money for the Devon Air Ambulance. Charlie Hoole set off at the weekend to walk from Minehead to Wambrook. He’s doing it to thank the air ambulance for coming to his aid when he was injured in a motorbike accident 2 years ago.
A rededication service, led by the Bishop of Bath and Wells, is to take place for the church clock in Montecute. The clock, at St Catherine’s Church, dating back to the 1400s and believed to be one of the oldest church clocks in England, has been fully restored and returned to the church tower.
