Plans have been submitted to convert a Yeovil pub into a school for children with special needs. Education provider, Five Rivers Child Care Ltd is asking for a ‘change of use’ on The Great Lyde Pub on the corner of Cavalier Way and Lyde Road. Somerset Council is due to make a decision on the application early in the New Year.

Work has been completed updating the sewerage system in Wincanton at a cost of £150,000. To keep disruption to a minimum and save money, Wessex Water used robots to reline the existing network of underground pipes in Church Street, North Street and Waterside Road.

Members of Ilminster Town Council have voted against buying its former office premises on North Street. The Council, who moved to new offices in the Old Magistrates Court in East Street 18 months ago, decided not to go ahead with a purchase due to the poor state of repair of the North Street building.

A stretch of the A303 on the Devon-Somerset border had to be shut in both directions yesterday after the road became blocked by fallen power cables. The incident, which led to long delays, happened at the turn-off to Chard at Upottery.

Repairs to St Peter's Church in Hornblotton, near Shepton Mallet, have been completed. Historic England gave £52,850 towards the project after the church's internal decorations were put at risk by a leaking roof.

A new play park is soon to open in Ilminster. The Winterhay Play Park has been funded through a new housing development on Whaites Drive.
