Yeovil MP, Adam Dance, says families and hospital staff need more information about re-opening maternity services at Yeovil Hospital. Mr Dance says a lack of clarity over the timetable to re-open the baby unit in Yeovil is causing distress.

Yeovil’s renal unit on the Lynx West Trading Estate has been told it must improve on safety. Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission found a breach of regulation in the care plans for patients on dialysis, resulting in a “requires improvement” rating for safety.

Chard Community Hub and Watch teams are appealing for help in finding new premises. It follows Somerset Council's decision to sell the Boden Centre on Boden Street, where both groups are currently based.

A protest has been held outside the West Mendip Community Hospital near Glastonbury over plans to cut beds. NHS Somerset wants to reduce the number of beds from 30 to 16 and provide more care in the local community. A scheme to cut beds at Crewkerne Community Hospital has also sparked outrage.

Organisers of a Live Aid concert held in Yeovil 40 years ago are trying to contact the bands that played at the event. Seventeen groups came together to play live at the Johnson Hall in 1985, raising money for famine relief in Ethiopia. The 40th anniversary is being celebrated next Thursday at The Quicksilver Mail, Yeovil, with the showing of a film of the concert from 1985.

A modified Great Western Railway train has set a world record, travelling 200 miles on a single charge. The trial was part of celebrations to mark 200 years since the inception of the modern railway. GWR says the technology could be introduced in the future on services in Somerset.
