Yeovil has won a share of £236,000 in funding to establish a Future Flight Innovation Zone. Based at iAero on Bunford Lane, the project will support the South West’s aerospace sector to achieve a greener future. The Future Flight Innovation Zone will see representatives of industry, education, local authorities, and business organisations working together to put Somerset at the forefront of decarbonizing the aviation sector.

Police in Chard are moving to temporary offices while Chard Police Station undergoes a major update. £900,000 is being spent fitting the building with solar panels, air source heat pumps, new windows, fencing and security gates. The work is due to begin at the end of the month and be finished before Christmas. During this time, Chard’s neighbourhood policing team will be based at temporary premises at Numatic in Chard, with a local response team working out of Crewkerne.

Recycling, rubbish, and garden waste collections will move forward by one day next week due to Monday being a Bank Holiday. If your recycling or rubbish is usually collected on a Monday it will be collected on a Tuesday. If your usual day is a Tuesday, it will be collected on Wednesday and so on. Collections that would usually take place on Friday, May 31st will take place on Saturday, June 1st.

Publicly owned forest land in Neroche in Somerset has been designated for re-wilding and left for nature. It’s one of four forest areas chosen as part of a major new re-wilding initiative by Forestry England.

Work has been completed installing new fitness equipment at Ilminster Recreation Ground. The new fitness station costing £14,000 has been paid for by local house builder.

Crewkerne will see the return of a farmer’s market next month. Crewkerne Farmers Markets will be held in Falkland Square on Saturday, June 22nd and then on the fourth Saturday of every month.
