    Plans have been submitted to build 12 new homes in Chard. The development, consisting of two-bedroom houses, will be built on land off Jarman Way in Chard.

    A nursery in Yeovil has been rated ‘overall good' by Ofsted. Marsh Lane Day on Marsh Lane in Yeovil was rated ‘good’ in every category, following an inspection. The Inspector’s report said children arrived happily to start their day, and showed keenness to get involved in all activities at the nursery.

    A new app will debut at the Bridgwater Carnival this weekend. The event, with a crowd of up to 100,000 expected, takes place on Saturday. Bridgwater Carnival organisers say the app is a valuable addition for visitors.

    National bakery chain Greggs has opened a new shop in Chard. 13 jobs have been created at the latest outlet on Tapstone Road, at the Tapstone Business Park.

    A Somerset mortgage broker has achieved national recognition. Levels Financial in Long Sutton was named the second-best mortgage advisor in the UK at the recent ESTAS awards, based on customer reviews.

    A stretch of the M5 at Wellington will be shut every night this week until Saturday for essential flood improvements. The northbound carriageway between junctions 27 at Tiverton and 25 at Taunton will be closed from 9 pm until 6 am.

    With Christmas preparations underway, the shop in Langport is offering customers a free weighing service. Ingredients for festive recipes are measured and sold in paper bags to reduce waste. Owner of Langport Stores, John Rice-Lewis, introduced the idea when he bought the shop 12 years ago.
