Police say another man in his 20s was left with potentially life-changing injuries following the incident, which happened on the High Street in Wincanton on Sunday morning. The arrested man remains in police custody.
Fire crews have dealt with a house fire in the village of Pitney. It happened at a property in Church End, with crews from Somerton and Martock using breathing apparatus and a local hydrant to tackle the blaze. No one was hurt.

A major road closure has been put in place in Crewkerne today. Two-way traffic lights are in operation on Broadshard Road until 7 pm this evening, after which the road will close to through traffic in both directions until 6 am tomorrow. Minster Church in Ilminster is opening for longer this week for the town’s annual Christmas tree festival. 57 Christmas trees, donated by local businesses, schools and charities, are on display. Admission is free, with the Minster open between 9 am and 5 pm until Saturday, and late-night opening until 7 pm on Thursday and Friday.
