The President of Yeovil Chamber of Commerce, Jo Reynolds, believes a change of ownership with the Glovers Walk Shopping Precinct in Yeovil could be good for the town. The site, which includes Yeovil Bus Station, was put up for sale last week with a price tag of £1.75 million. Owners, the Martin Property Group, had promised to re-develop the area with an entertainment venue, hotel, and residential flats but now want to sell the site for around half what they paid for it five years ago. Jo Reynolds says positive things could come from having a new owner of Glovers Walk, where almost all the shops have been empty for more than ten years.

Work has started upgrading the children’s play area at Ninesprings Country Park in Yeovil. The £220,000 refurbishment will see equipment that has reached its end of life replaced with more inclusive equipment that includes removing a 20-year-old timber pirate ship and replacing it with a wildlife-themed play structure.

Plans have been submitted to extend the pavilion at lton Cricket Club. The extension would see the existing clubhouse enlarged to allow for new shower facilities to be created in both the home and away changing rooms.

A bed and breakfast business in Tintinhull has come first in the Channel Four show ‘Four in a Bed’. The Crown and Victoria competed against three other B&Bs in which each rated the others for their hospitality, service and value for money. One of the establishments is then crowned winner at the end of a week-long series.

Yeovil Town Football Club has raised more than £40,000 from donations from fans, sponsors and the club owner, Martin Hellier, towards building a new breast care unit at Yeovil Hospital. Saturday’s game at Huish Park was dedicated to raising money for the Yeovil Breast Cancer Unit Appeal, which is within just a few thousand pounds of reaching its two-and-a-half-million-pound target.

Gemini Carnival Club is searching for new premises to build its floats. The Club’s been served with a notice to quit the base it has occupied for 17 years at Kingstone near Ilminster. Club says ideally it needs a big shed on a quarter-acre plot within a 12-mile radius of Ilminster and Chard.
