The Somerset mother of a teenage boy with special educational needs says she can’t afford to pay for the specialist transport he needs to get to school. Luke requires a taxi, accompanied by an in-car support escort, to take him to his lessons. Somerset Council states that, because Luke is over 16, they don’t have a legal duty to fund his transport. His mother, Tatjana, is now asking the council to make an exception for Luke.

A Reform UK candidate has won a seat on Chard Town Council. In a by-election held for a vacancy for the Jocelyn ward, Harry Tribble for Reform polled 184 votes, beating Daniel Elsom for the Lib Dems on 176 votes into second place. Independent candidate Jeanette Orchard polled 152 votes. The turnout was 24.6 per cent.
