Cary21: Cary through time in 21 objects - They need your help!

This is taking place in the Market House top floor Assembly Room and is a joint venture between the Cary History Society, the Town Council and the Cary Museum.

The show will give residents a chance to see and find out about an interesting collection of objects relating to the history of our town, from the Stone Age to the present day and will include a model of the Castle.

It will also be a great opportunity to see both the impressive Assembly Room and the adjacent former Billiard Room.  It is the Town Council’s wish not only to restore these Victorian rooms but in addition to providing a lift for those unable to climb the stairs to the second floor.   To do this we will need community support. We already have the architect’s plans and are in discussion with Historic England but have yet to apply for listed building consent.

How can you get involved?  We are looking for volunteers to look after the display during opening hours.  This will be in 2 or 3-hour slots - say 11 am to 1 pm and 1 pm to 4 pm. We will need at least 2 people on duty for each session and we may be open all week.  Full training will be given!!!

We may also need volunteers with muscles to help move heavy things, and people with vehicles to collect loans, etc and possibly others with carpentry skills! We need someone familiar with digital display screens!  And if Covid allows a reception, we will also need canapé makers and helpers with handing round, pouring drinks and so on.  If you have other useful skills, please let us know!

If getting involved appeals to you, please reply to this message and we will start lists of helpers – please say briefly what you are offering to do and give a vague idea of your likely availability!  At this stage you will not be making a commitment.

Email: caryhistsoc@gmail.com for more information or to volunteer.
