Martock Charity Shop has donated half a million pounds to children’s charities in the South West since it opened in 2006.
The independent charity shop, at 3 North Street, is run by unpaid trustees, committee members, and volunteers, and donates to a host of good causes, including individual children, schools, children's hospices, and neonatal units.
Val Ford, one of the volunteers who started the shop, says it has grown and grown as a business, and that if it hadn't been for Covid, they would have reached the half-a-million-pound target sooner.
The shop was run by the Brainwave charity before 2006 and was then taken over by the community as an independent venture. Val says they started by opening only part of the shop, and then added the shop next door when it became vacant.
Martock Charity Shop is open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am to noon on Saturday. Anyone who would like to volunteer to work in the shop is welcome to join.
