A one-million-pound fund has been launched to support businesses and community projects in rural Somerset.
The Rural England Prosperity Fund, managed by Somerset Council, aims to support micro and small businesses in rural areas in their growth.
The scheme provides capital funding to improve productivity, create jobs, and enhance community facilities.
Lead member for economic development, planning, and assets at Somerset Council, Councillor Mike Rigby, says the Fund is a vital resource for rural areas. It provides the necessary support for small businesses to increase productivity and contribute to growth. It enables businesses to innovate, expand, and thrive, ensuring that rural areas remain vibrant and sustainable.
REPF funding has assisted several businesses previously in boosting Somerset’s rural economy;
Brickell’s Ice Cream used its funding to purchase new manufacturing equipment, while a local cider manufacturer invested in new bottling equipment.
The Rural England Prosperity Fund also extends to community projects, with the Stoke-sub-Hamdon Sports and Recreation Trust receiving the money to build a new skate park.
Grants range from £5,000 to £75,000 and are available to business and community organisations that meet the eligibility criteria. Full details are available on the Somerset Council website.
