    Stroke Unit Yeovil Hospital

    NHS Somerset says major changes to the delivery of stroke services at Yeovil Hospital will take effect in the Spring of this year.

    As part of the changes approved last year, Yeovil Hospital will lose its hyper-acute stroke unit, meaning that patients needing the most urgent care will instead be taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton or to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.

    The decision to close Yeovil Hospital’s hyper-acute stroke unit has been controversial, with the town’s MP, Adam Dance, calling on the government to reverse the decision.

    NHS Somerset says Yeovil Hospital will keep its acute stroke unit, while the stroke unit at Dorset County Hospital will be expanded, with construction due to finish in March 2026, allowing the new service to go live in May.
