Yeovil Country Park

Improvements are being carried out to the pedestrian and cycling pathway, linking Pen Mill railway station with nearby Yeovil Country Park.

The route, which is prone to flooding, is being improved as part of upgrading all of Yeovil’s walking and cycling network, aimed at making it easier and safer to walk and cycle into the town centre.

Somerset Council says several places on the pathway between Pen Mill station and Yeovil Country Park are being improved. The improvements involve stopping tree roots coming through the concrete path, cutting the risk of flooding on sections of the path nearest the river and golf club, and repainting the cycle lanes.

Somerset Council will also oversee improvements to walking and cycling routes along Lyde Road, providing a better connection to the town centre and country park from the Wyndham Park estate. New pathways are planned as the Up Mudford urban extension begins to take shape.

Portfolio holder for transport and digital at Somerset Council, Councillor Richard Wilkins, says improving cycle and pedestrian walkways will open up access to Yeovil’s green spaces, creating a sustainable and fit-for-purpose, 21st-century town.
