For Sale signs have gone up at the Oscar Mayer food factory site in Chard. It follows Oscar Mayer’s announcement in November to shut the Chard factory in September this year with the loss of 800 jobs. The sale is being handled by property agents, Jones Land LaSalle.

Police are investigating an incident in Crewkerne in which a man was hit over the head with a baseball bat. He was taken to Yeovil Hospital with serious head injuries. It happened outside Crewkerne swimming pool on Tuesday, 4th May at around 3.45 in the afternoon. Police want to speak to a man seen in the area at the time carrying a baseball bat.

The go-ahead has been given for a two-day music festival on the site of Glastonbury Festival. Despite local concerns about noise and extra traffic, a license has been issued for the event in September. Numbers attending will be limited to 40,000, with camping allowed on the site.

£80,000 has been given to Chard to deliver new community activities in town. The money, from Historic England, will be used to stage two festivals to celebrate Chard’s history and culture, and help revive footfall in the High Street.

A petition’s been launched to force motorists to drive more slowly on roads in Ilminster. It calls for traffic calming on the road between Ilminster and Kingstone and on Moolham Lane and Mill Lane. The petition will be sent to Somerset County Council in the hope that action will be taken.
