    Farmers from Somerset were amongst the hundreds of others from across the UK who gathered in London yesterday to protest against changes to inheritance tax. Under plans announced in the budget, farmers with agricultural assets worth more than one million pounds will be subject to a twenty per cent tax rate. The National Farmers Union has urged the government to reconsider the proposal warning it threatens the future of British farming.

    Avon and Somerset Police is trialling a new way to find people with dementia when they are reported missing. It's in addition to the wristbands worn by people with dementia and relies on data picked up via mobile phones to pinpoint a person’s exact location. 

    A cake designer from Yeovil has been crowned Best Cake Designer in the South West. Holly Miller now goes forward to represent the region at the National finals in London. Holly, who’s the current holder of the national title last says she’s hopeful of winning it again this year.

    It’s the turn of Castle Cary today to hold a Christmas Market. The event, with late-night shopping, live entertainment and Father Christmas, starts at 5 pm and ends at 9.30 pm.

    Jenny’s Café and Bistro in Chard has been voted Café of the Year in a poll held by the Chard and Ilminster News. Business owner, Jenny Clampett, says she’s delighted to win the title yet surprised given the high number of other cafes in the Chard and Ilminster area.
