Yeovil MP Adam Dance has criticised the Chancellor’s Spending Review for not delivering real change for Yeovil and South Somerset. Speaking in the Commons, Mr Dance said the Labour’s spending plans failed to support children with special educational needs and warned that cuts to the DEFRA budget would impact Somerset farmers and the rural economy.
The CEO of Leonardo UK, Clive Higgins, says they’re working towards closing the gender pay gap at the company. It’s reported that Leonardo female employees are paid around 10% less than their male counterparts. Mr Higgins was speaking at a conference held at the Yeovil factory, aimed at attracting more women to take up careers in aerospace.
Police are advising people flying from Bristol airport to check the parking company they’re using is official. It comes after meet-and-greet operators failed to hand back vehicles on time when passengers had landed. Police say other vehicles were returned damaged and with unexplained additional mileage on the clock.
Yeovil Town is moving its training camp to Bristol. From the start of the new season, first-team players will train at the SGS Wise Campus at Stoke Gifford in Bristol. Yeovil Town states that relocating training to Bristol will be a better location for the Club to attract a wider pool of talent and build a squad capable of pushing for promotion to the Football League.
Plans to build 252 new houses off Mudford Road in Yeovil have been submitted to Somerset Council for final approval. The scheme on land to the north of Mudford Road was granted outline permission on appeal in January of last year. Now, the developer is requesting that Somerset Council vary and remove some of the conditions of the outline permission.
